Surbiton, the Hop Exchange and a new postal address for LBA

We are excited to announce the start of another new chapter in LBA’s history as, in a move originally due to take place in the summer of 2020, we have brought our Business Admin team from their long-standing base in Surbiton to join the rest of the LBA team in the Hop Exchange at London Bridge.

Surbiton has provided a home to LBA since our founding in 2000, with three different locations in the town playing host to us – most recently our final office there, Cranhurst Lodge, which we used from 2007 to 2022. As times change, our need to remain in Surbiton as well as in Central London has diminished although our memories of enjoyable times in Surbiton will not.

The Grade II-listed Hop Exchange is a wonderfully historic building, dating from 1867 and retaining much of its original architecture. As you may realise from its name, its original purpose was for the trading of hops when this area was at the heart of London’s brewing industry. It is a building well worth a visit – and not solely due to LBA being based in it!

Our association with the Hop goes back a little further than the 15 years we’ve had offices here – older members of the LBA team tunnelled beneath the Hop while working on the Jubilee Line Extension in the 1990s. It’s safe to say we know the building and its immediate surroundings rather well!

We have, though, worked in the Hop Exchange since 2007, primarily using our suites here as a base for members of our team when not working on site or in client offices, and for client meetings. To make space for the Business Admin team’s arrival, we’ve leased two additional offices on the same floor as our current suites so that we can all sit side by side.

As you can imagine, we enjoy working in the Hop Exchange, just a stone’s throw from Borough Market, the City of London and the easy public transport links of London Bridge station (another of our projects), and we are really looking forward to having so many of the LBA team under one roof – we know it will enhance our internal communications, knowledge-sharing and team spirit.
