A team dedication to innovation and quality
From humble beginnings, LBA is now involved in a number of major projects worldwide and has become the partner of choice for many clients, consulting engineers and contractors
The corporate history of London Bridge Associates (LBA) begins in 2000 when Taylor Woodrow decided to rationalise by closing down their Tunnelling and Foundation Engineering businesses, a small group of employees decided that they wanted to continue to work together in Civil Engineering, Tunnelling and Ground Engineering. They felt that their contribution to the construction industry would be greater if they continued to work together, rather than if they dispersed to different organisations. This close knit group of nine experienced construction professionals founded London Bridge Associates Limited and immediately began working for a number of contractors.
Jubilee Line Team
Many of that original group had worked on the construction of the Jubilee Line Extension at London Bridge and the company decided to name itself London Bridge Associates in recognition of the success of that project. London Bridge was a landmark project for most of the founders of the company although many of them had worked together on other Taylor Woodrow projects such as the Tyne and Wear Metro, the Piccadilly Extension to Heathrow, the Channel Tunnel, Brighton Stormwater Project, Ramsgate Harbour Tunnel and the A27 Southwick Hill Tunnel.
Corporate history of organic growth
The declared aim of the company at start up was to offer its skills to a range of clients and not just to contractors and we began offering our in depth knowledge of the planning and management of construction projects to consultants engaged in project supervision and the design of projects. LBA also committed to best practice in its internal and external dealings. LBA has since grown organically as its reputation has spread amongst potential staff and clients, with the introduction of a number of carefully chosen staff who have recognised capabilities in construction and project management.
A key feature of the company is that a large part of its business is repeat business from established clients,
Collectively they cover many fields including, tunnelling and the construction of underground structures, roads, railways, civil engineering, building, supervision of mechanical and electrical services, geotechnical engineering, instrumentation, monitoring and engineering surveying. They have one thing in common is extensive experience and a range of technical and managerial skills that are of potential benefit to clients throughout the construction industry.
A key feature of the company is that a large part of its business is repeat business from established clients, some of whom have been clients from the very beginning of the company’s history. Whilst the vast majority of the company’s work is still for contractors and consultants the company now carries out works directly for some of the major clients in the transport sectors.
The company currently employs a total of over 50 staff and has widened its shareholder base so that a large proportion of the staff now own shares in the company.
The company has grown in numbers but the core company values remain and the service offered will continue to be a very personal service tailored to the needs of each of our clients.
